* The Prostopinije uses the designation “Podoben” to indicate that this is a prototype melody (Greek: automelon).  The term “Samopodoben” is, perhaps, a more descriptive designation for the prototype melody; podoben (Greek: prosomoion) then indicates what is sung according to the prototype, samopodoben tone.

This podoben (using the terminology of the Prostopinije), House of Ephratha, is sung at the Aposticha of Vespers, December 24.

In English:

1 House of Ephrata
2 the holy city
3 the glory of the prophets
4 adorn the house
5 in which the Divine-One was born.
